Born in Los Angeles, grown in Idaho, and fortified in New England, Steph Sloan is a charismatic force to reckon with. In addition to her award-winning songwriting and soulful voice, Steph’s stage presence is undeniably captivating. With Ella Fitzgerald’s clarity, syncopation a la Jason Mraz, the funky boldness of Stevie Wonder, and her own gripping melodies that you’ll be humming for days, this musical spawn has a fresh sound that’s sure to put a smile on your face and a bounce in your step.
Steph’s musical journey began with her voice and a tambourine. The voyage has taken a few twists and turns through the years - from church choir to Dixieland jazz band, from Christmas caroling to musical theater, from late night rehearsals in garages to her first gig as a solo artist... she has constantly let her voice lead her to solid ground in musical exploration.
In sixth grade, Steph discovered her affinity for instruments by picking up the drums, trumpet and French horn. Her attraction to creating and cultivating new sounds intensified through high school, where she taught herself to play tenor banjo, guitar, piano, ukulele, and various other instruments. This education, exploration, and experimentation led her to write her first song.
After attending Berklee College of Music’s 5-Week Summer Performance Program in 2009, Steph was inspired to pursue music as a career. For her senior project in 2010, she decided to write, record, produce, and mix her first record, the Eliminating the Middleman EP.
In the spring of 2014, Steph independently released her debut album, Bloom, and graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she studied songwriting and vocal performance.
While performing with her band, Steph Sloan & the Elephant Parade, she has had to opportunity to open for many international acts - most notably, The Gourds, Olin & the Moon, Ruthie Foster, the Tom-Tom's, and Brandi Carlile.
Currently, Steph Sloan resides in Silver Lake, and has been writing, performing, and spreading her tunes in the US and across foreign seas. On her off days, Steph can be found exploring the city through invigorating food and stellar wine.
